First Day

My old elementary school mate, Mark, came to Heathrow and to pick me up in his midnight blue Volkswagen. (Note: Mark and I were never school mates. But certainly feels like it.) Not an early bird, he wasn't himself couple hours later. I was excited. Boy, my first trip to the developed sophisticated country after my teens! Sixpence None the Richer's "There she goes" echoing in my head. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3T6scpckjI) Sun is gonna shine and I'll march through the green green park with Big Ben standing behind me. Hello, London!

But no. oh no.

Cold. It's biting cold. And rain. It hasn't stopped. There is no song singing in my background and the Big Ben is far away. The damp and cold morning remind me of the winter days in grad school dormitory. Gloomy sky and overdue paper. To turn the vibe around, we headed out to see Windsor. The castle is as it is.

To make the day more quintessential English day. We sat down at a greasy fish and chips joint and watched the River Thames, talking about nothing and commenting on Page 3's lady on the Sun.

It was good. Even tho there is no song in my background.
